RIDBC relies heavily on community generosity to fund its programs for children with impaired vision or hearing.
Our commitment to a family may extend over 18 years, from the time of diagnosis until the completion of high school.
For this reason, the Board of Directors has worked to strengthen RIDBC financially, to increase the certainty that we can honour such long-term commitments and to ensure our supporters’ funds are best used. Some of our financial policies include:
- All lands and buildings are owned, and there are no lease or rental obligations.
- RIDBC has no debt, and therefore pays no interest to lenders.
- Capital works are funded through a combination of gift appeals and saved surpluses from prior years – never through borrowing.
- Reserves are invested to generate income to meet operating costs.
