RIDBC Abstract Committee

The Abstract Committee is RIDBC’s longest serving committee, formed in 1965. This dedicated group of volunteers supports the Book, Toy and Music Fair, sale of Entertainment Books, as well as holding a Trivia Night each year. Over $75,000 was raised in 2016 as a result of these initiatives.

The annual Book, Toy and Music Fair, which has been running for 27 years, raised a record amount of over $45,000 in 2016 thanks to the generosity of the community, not only by donating all the items, but also by buying the outstanding array of books, toys, CDs, records and DVDs.

RIDBC Horizon Committee

The RIDBC Horizon Committee is a dedicated fundraising committee that began raising funds for children with vision or hearing loss in 1984.

The Committee holds two events each year: The Annual Authors’ Lunch at Parliament House in May; and The Oaks Day Luncheon and Fashion Parade in November, raising $17,000 for RIDBC in 2016.

RIDBC Lantern Club

RIDBC Lantern Club members are enthusiastic, fun-loving and committed volunteers who fundraise solely for RIDBC. Since their inception 52 years ago, the clubs and their members have raised more than $14 million through a variety of enterprising and fun activities such as guest speaker luncheons, raffles, fashion parades and bric-a-brac stalls.

RIDBC staff and several Lantern Club members enjoyed an afternoon tea at Government House in April 2016 and were honoured to be joined by RIDBC Joint Vice Regal Patrons, His Excellency General, The Hon. David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d), Governor of NSW and Mrs Linda Hurley.

Mrs Hurley hosted the afternoon tea and spoke highly of the Lantern Clubs, commending them for all their hard work and dedication to raise funds for RIDBC in their local communities. Her heartfelt appreciation of the clubs was reflected in the song she wrote and performed on the day, dedicated to the Lantern Club members, which was greatly appreciated by those in attendance.
