RIDBC Hunter

The support RIDBC receives from the Hunter community, clubs and corporates is paramount to our success. It enables us to provide innovative programs and services to a number of sites across the Hunter region.

We received tremendous support through a number of successful events held during the year, grants through community clubs, donations from the general public and the many Hunter businesses who support us.

In 2016, there were a number of projects undertaken by volunteers from CityServe and Bunnings. Our heartfelt thanks go to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly on the gardens and new Braille Room at Tingira.

Parents and Friends Committee

The Parents and Friends Committee continued to raise funds in 2016 through raffles, room hire, fundraising and social events to purchase equipment for the preschool.

Sight and Sound for Kids Corporate Lunch

In September, the 5th annual Sight and Sound for Kids Corporate Lunch took place at Merewether Surfhouse. Joel Griffith, former player of the Newcastle Jets, and Lawrie McKinna, CEO of the Newcastle Jets hosted the event and spoke about the new ownership of the Jets and the benefits for the Hunter region.

Together with Nathan Brown, Head Coach of the Newcastle Knights, they discussed team activation and motivation with MC Damien Botha. At the event $47,000 was raised with items to the value of $15,000 being donated for the silent auction.

The proceeds from the 2016 lunch were used to supply families in the Hunter region with dedicated videoconferencing technology that allows them to access RIDBC Teleschool from their own homes.

Kick 4 A Cause

Another successful Kick 4 A Cause soccer event was held at FootballFIVES, Speers Point in May 2016.

Teams from local Hunter organisations were invited to participate in raising funds for local people with vision or hearing loss. Major sponsors of the event included Hyundai Help for Kids, Lake Macquarie Council, Lake Motors and Bristol Paints, raising $20,000 for RIDBC Hunter.

Finding Dory Movie Premiere

A highlight for many of the children and families in our services was the movie premiere of Finding Dory.

This event raised $4,000 and was sponsored by Event Cinemas, Kotara in June 2016. Young and old enjoyed a ‘Colouring in Competition’, ‘Best Dressed Competition,’ face painting and a themed play area in the cinema’s foyer plus raffles and market stalls, and the premiere of Finding Dory.
