King House Accommodation

King House is located within the grounds of the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC) at 361-365 North Rocks Road, North Rocks, New South Wales. Quality short and long-term accommodation is available in RIDBC’s King House for:

  • Full-time students
  • Visiting research/teaching fellows
  • Conference participants; and
  • Other official college visitors

GETTING TO RIDBC …

RIDBC is located in North Rocks in the north-western suburbs of Sydney – about a 45 minute drive from the centre of the city (not to be confused with The Rocks area which is located on Sydney Harbour).

TRANSPORT

Please note, RIDBC does not organise transport or transfers for people staying at King House.

Taxi
A taxi fare between Sydney airport and RIDBC is approximately $110.00 each way.

Trains
Cityrail stations are located at Epping and Parramatta (both approx 15 minutes away).

There is a bus stop outside the RIDBC gate and another across the road outside the Westfield Shopping Centre.

KING HOUSE GENERAL INFORMATION

King House is a two storey, motel-style accommodation block located on the RIDBC campus.

Accommodation includes:

  • 23 rooms
  • mixture of twin and single configurations (1 wheelchair room)
  • 2 interconnecting rooms which sleep up to 8 people
  • 13 rooms with ensuite, 10 rooms without ensuite
  • internet access available in 17 rooms
  • Sheets, towels and pillows are provided.

Communal facilities:

  • communal kitchens x 2
  • communal living/dining areas x 2
  • communal bathrooms x 2

Housekeeping
No housekeeping or laundry service is provided for guests during their stay.
There is a vacuum cleaner in the communal laundry which is available for guests to use if they wish.
Rooms are professionally cleaned, and linen laundered, once a guest has departed.

Meals
No food or meals are provided.
There are supermarkets across the road in the Westfield Shopping Centre.
Each kitchen has two fridges, full cooking facilities and plenty of pantry space.

Television
There is a television in each of the common living areas.
King House does not have cable television.

Internet
There is a limited broadband service provided to 17 rooms and both flats.
King House has a limited monthly allowance and we ask that guests refrain from downloading movies or songs as this can drastically reduce the allowance and cause the internet connection to become very slow or even cease.

Telephones
There is a telephone in each room (local and STD only).
There is a public telephone on the ground floor at the western end of King House.

To book accommodation please forward a completed booking form to the Accommodation Officer.

$50 /night up to 3 nights
$130 for 4-7 nights + $30 cleaning fee

1 person per room 8+ nights
$130 weekly rate + one-off $30 cleaning fee
$18.50/night for part weeks

2 people per room 1-7 nights
$70 /night up to 3 nights
$210 for 4-7 nights + $30 cleaning fee
(these are room costs, not per person costs)

RIDBC prefers payment by credit card at the time of booking, but will accept cheques or cash.
Please indicate on the booking form if you require an invoice.

ON ARRIVAL

During Business Hours (9am-5pm Mon-Fri)
Please go to Reception (located in the Administration building by the front gates) and ask for the Accommodation Officer.
The Accommodation Officer will bring you your key and show you to King House.

After Business Hours/Weekends
Keys and details of new arrivals will be left with the Security Guard.
Please go to the Security Hut located at the main entrance.
If the Hut is unattended, please press the red button on the front gate. This will alert the Guard who will come to meet you.

 

ON DEPARTURE

Please place your key in the Key Return Box located on the ground floor of King House, near the eastern staircase.

Shopping
A Westfield Shopping Centre is located directly opposite RIDBC on North Rocks Road.

It includes:
Coles supermarket
Franklins supermarket
Aldi supermarket
K-Mart
Coffee shops and cafes
Chinese restaurant
Turkish restaurant
Boutiques and specialty stores
Medical centre and chemist

Restaurants
There are no restaurants in walking distance from RIDBC (apart from those located in the Westfield shopping centre).

The nearest restaurants can be found in Epping, Parramatta, Baulkham Hills (5 minutes away), and Castle Hill (10 minutes away) and would require bus or taxi travel.
