Jess Waters summed up the Coleman Greig Challenge as “a good run, and a great morning”. It was a feeling held by many who enjoyed the beautiful Western Sydney morning.

Completed on Friday (20 September) this was the seventh edition of the annual charity run in Parramatta Park courtesy of organisers Coleman Greig Lawyers, and supported by a significant number of organisations through participation and donation.

RIDBC Client Ambassador Jess performed admirably, claiming 3rd place in the 10km run. In addition to being acknowledged for her strong effort in the run with a spot on the podium, Jess was invited to address the attendees, on behalf of RIDBC, at the post-event celebratory breakfast consisting of well over 500 participants and volunteers.

She spoke fondly of her journey with RIDBC, which started over 20 years ago when she was diagnosed with bilateral severe to profound hearing loss.

“For me, and my family, RIDBC offered an individualised program designed to support and encourage my independence” she said.

Jess continued, “RIDBC also ensured I had a successful transition to my mainstream school, Tara Anglican School for Girls, where I stayed for the rest of my school years”.

After speaking of her time at RIDBC she spoke of her success in life, including the completion of two degrees, two more in progress, and her dreams for the future – “I have hopes to travel the world working with para-athletes, including at the Paralympic Games”.

Jess concluded by reiterating how proud she was to be RIDBC Client Ambassador for the second consecutive year, a role she performed to the standards of her studies – with distinction.

From Melissa Bergin – Director, Fundraising & Development, “RIDBC is thrilled to continue our long-term partnership with the Coleman Greig Challenge as one of the three charities this important initiative supports. We can’t thank Coleman Greig Lawyers enough for their continued dedication to this event, as well as the many organisations and individuals who participated and donated. It’s wonderful to see the event continue to grow each year, with local businesses and the community across Western Sydney coming together to make a significant impact on the lives of so many children and their families.”

And as the event closes for another year Jess has her sights on 2020 and a message for all “I will see you at the starting line next year”.
