Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC) welcomes the announcement today from NBN Co that broadband speeds will be doubled in rural and regional Australia as early as June this year.


The launch of the RIDBC Cochlear Implantation Service ensures that children with hearing loss can now access a seamless, end-to-end audiological and support service through RIDBC from diagnosis and early intervention through to the end of school.


Several families of children who are blind or have vision loss from across Australia recently attended an intensive Braille Week at Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC).


In Australia, one in 1000 children is diagnosed with hearing loss at birth. For a further one in 1000 - a hearing loss is not detected until school age. RIDBC is reminding parents of kindergarten children to put a hearing test on their back-to-school list.
